Learning object
–noun
A reusable, media-independent collection of information used as a modular building block for e-learning content. Learning objects are most effective when organized by a meta data classification system and stored in a data repository such as an LCMS.  A learning object has been defined as: Any entity, digital or non-digital, that may be used for learning, education or training Any digital resource that can be reused to support learning Web-based interactive chunks of e-learning designed to explain a stand-alone learning objective. A digitized entity which can be used, reused or referenced during technology supported learning.

 

Case Study 1: AT&T

Project Type: eLearning Tool Development

Client Need:

AT&T was rolling-out a new wireless phone product that was dependent upon a complex internal network of devices and protocols. They needed a tool that would allow employees to quickly and easily understand specific components and processes within the system.

Cybermind Solution:

Cybermind created an Flash-based, interactive flowchart that demonstrated:

  • The flow of information through the system
  • System names. (Revealed on mouse roll-over)
  • System definitions. (Revealed on mouse click)
  • A Control Pad used to stop, start and rewind the animation.

The resulting Learning Tool was a great success. It is now in use at AT&T for delivering training to many levels of employees, from entry-level to senior- management.


Case Study 2: Amgen

Project Type: eLearning Course Development

Client Need:

An online course that would train domestic and international Research Assistants to input, retrieve and produce reports on Clinical Study Trials using a new version of the industry standard study trial software.

Cybermind Solution:

Working with a team of Subject Matter Experts, Cybermind created a 26 module online course which included, Narration, Flash Animation, Captivate software simulation and Assessments that provided:

  • The terminology and function of the entire system.
  • The type of input required for each employee role.
  • Interactive demonstrations of each key component.
  • SME validated assessments for each key component.

The resulting eLearning course received high praise from Amgen Project Management. It has been rolled-out to 60+ countries and is currently being used to train more than 15,000 Amgen employees world-wide.


Case Study 3: UCLA

Project Type: eLearning Course Development

Client Need:

An online course that would train each workgroup in Communication Technology Services on the use of the COMIT the database information system. This was to include documentation of the system, a global view of the process and an interactive training interface.

Cybermind Solution:

Working with a team of Subject Matter Experts, Cybermind created a 53 module online course which included, a Zoom-Map Interface, Interactive Flash Animation, Interactive Captivate instructional videos which provided:

  • An interactive map of each product and process.
  • Detailed instructions and guidelines for each workgroup.
  • Open architecture for easy future updating.
  • A printable guide for each task defined by the training tool.

The resulting eLearning course received enthusiastic approval by the Department Director and High praise from the software vendor. It is currently being used to train over 3,000 employees in the UCLA-CTS Department.
